The place, need, & opportunity

The Place: Quintana Roo,Mexico lies on the southeastern coast of Mexico. The population is approximately 1.8 million people. 50 years ago it was primarily jungle and the Mexican government made a decision to develop the area for tourism.

The area has grown at a rapid pace, and many of the people from the villages who are seeking a better life have moved to the area. They have left the support of family, friends and churches and need to establish those relationships in their new home. The place is ripe for the false teaching of the "prosperity gospel." It is a doctrine that will only lead to heartbreak and disappointment with God.

The Need: The need for properly trained pastors is critical. There is no seminary that teaches conservative Reformed doctrine within 200 miles of Cancun.

On the job learning is the model that works  best for training pastors in Bible and theology. Using Third Millennium Ministries curriculum is the most effective way we have seen. It answers huge challenges confronted in developing countries, and it is already in Spanish.

The Opportunity: The place is ripe for ministry. There is an openness to the gospel as people are looking for a change to better their lives.

our immediate focus

  • Equipping Leaders in Conferences

We are using Third Millennium Ministries for the Biblical and theological curriculum.  I will be using my 47 years of ministry in Young Life, church planting and pastoring to encourage and coach church planters, those front line warriors for the Kingdom of Christ.

  • Personal Coaching & Mentoring

From the moment I came to Christ, I sensed a call to serve Him in the ministry. I have been privileged to know some of the greatest people. I've had superb training and mentoring in youth ministry, church planting, and pastoral care. Not to pass along this practical wisdom born of experience would be wrong. It would be wasting the pain and effort I've experienced in my ministry career.

We have trained 10 mentors to date and several of them are using the Third Mill curriculum already in their churches. There are several other groups with whom we are planning to meet. Our goal is to do the follow-up from our January conference so that the application of Third Mill is being widely practiced through out the churches.

  • Church Planting Network

By forming a Church Planting Network with a commitment to continuous training, accountability and support, more solid churches will be planted and established than could happen by a single denomination. Dr. John Richard DeWitt, the Senior Pastor at Second Presbyterian Church when I was an Associate Pastor there, told me that, "presbyteries move at the speed of a fully clad Victorian woman."
