Prayer Support for Movement

In order to reach the Riviera Maya, a certain type of prayer is needed. It is prayer focused on God's Kingdom. Why typical prayer tends toward being self-centered, kingdom prayer is focused on the needs of the kingdom. Kingdom-centered prayer is a passion for God's glory to be shown.


Our desire for the Riviera Maya is to experience God's glory to be seen, experienced, and spread throughout Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, and Isla Majures.

Here's why kingdom-centered prayer is so effective. It consists of 3 elements.

    #1 Kingdom prayer Focuses on God's presence and kingdom

    Jack Miller, professor at Westminster Theological Seminary, taught Kingdom prayer goes beyond simple "maintenance prayer" to the urgency of "front-line prayer". Its three basic ingredients:

    1. A request for grace to confess sins and humble ourselves.
    2. A compassion and zeal for the expansion of the church and reaching the lost.
    3. A yearning to know God, see his face, and see his glory.
    See Exodus 33, Nehemiah 1, Isaiah 62 & 64, and Acts 4.

  • #2 kingdom prayer is bold and specific

    Those greatly used by God were bold in prayer, highly specific, and filled their prayers with arguments (Exodus 33).


    Lloyd-Jones, commenting on Exodus 33, writes, "Thomas Goodwin uses a wonderful term. He says, 'Sue him for it, sue him for it!' Do not leave him alone. Pester him, as it were, with his own promise. Quote the Scripture to him. God delights to hear us doing it, as  father likes to see this element in his own child who has obviously been listening to what his father has been saying."

  • #3 kingdom prayer is prevailing and corporate

    Prayer should be constant, not sporadic and brief. Sporadic prayer is such because we don't make time for it. It shows a lack of dependence, a self sufficiency, and so we do not build an altar of prayer that God will visit with his holy fire.


    We must pray without ceasing, pray long and hard, and we'll find the very process will bring about what we're asking for-- to have hearts melted, barriers torn down, and God's glory break through.

    Jeremiah Lanphier led an amazing prayer revival in 1857, at the North Dutch Reformed Church in lower Manhattan New York City.

How you can pray

Each week, pray for the following 3 areas of Riviera Maya Ministries. Devote one day for each item and pray throughout the day for that specific area.

  • #1 The mexican pastors and coordinator

    Ask God for his glory to be seen through the pastors by:
    • having an anointing for bold clear speech (Acts 4:31b)
    • having the Spirit’s high assurance of sonship (Rom 8:15-16)
    • grasping of God (Eph.3:17) fullness of God (Eph.3:15,20); gazing and transformed (2 Cor3:18; Ps.27:4)
    • ability to repent and rejoice all day--that Christ dwell in my heart
    • being an evangelist, and person of prayer
    • having deep humility, well-guided zeal, burning love, single eye

  • #2 Flourishing of current and new churches

    Pray specifically for flourishing of the church through:

    • anointed worship (I Cor.14:25)
    • conversions: influential people, poor people, hard case people, many people
    • Outpouring of gifts: new leaders, financial simplicity and generosity, new staff
    • community: multiply groups, deep sense of love & joy, holiness
    • vision: high, clear, unified

  • #3 partnership with north american churches

    Pray for the expansion of the kingdom through new partnerships with churches and groups in North America.

    • Partnerships with individual churches and presbyteries.
    • Multiplication of Vision and Mission Trips.
    • Retiring pastors to come and be part of planting English speaking churches for growing English speaking community in the Riviera Maya.

  • #4 financial resources for full support

    Pray for a sustainable financial support base that fully frees the hands of the Coordinator of Riviera Maya Ministries and the Mexican pastors of the Riviera Maya.
